Short-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall score, we gave this facility an A for short-term care. Our short-term care grade is often used to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This place outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 61.7 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. Our nursing score is mostly based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility boasts a really impressive 4.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, of which a significant portion was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the higher totals of nursing hours we found at any facility. On top of looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these datapoints as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also performed well in the area of long-term care, where it received a grade of A-. Very few facilities fared better in this area. Facilities that excel in this category tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of offering very favorable levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 97.0297 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. This combination proved to be successful as this place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.1 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a much better hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.
Facility Inspections
Finally, this nursing home also earned top notch inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that category, with an impressive grade of B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
