This nursing home excelled in our short-term care rating, with an A- in this area. This really propped up its overall score. In forming these short-term care grades, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

This nursing home also earned favorable health inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that category, with a grade of B. This is better than its overall grade. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. This particular nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Our third category we looked at was long-term care, where this nursing home was given an F. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.

This nursing home's least impressive category is nursing, which is the final area we assessed. It received an F for this category. Despite some respectable grades in other categories, this score is nevertheless concerning so we would like to to point it out. When computing a nursing home's nursing score, we weigh the number of hours nurses commit to patients as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. On top of ranking below average in nursing hours per resident, this place also had poor marks in the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in both of these statistics. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade quite a bit.
