Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a grade of B+ for our inspections category. This score is much more impressive than the place's overall score. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid facilities that had too many deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We also ended up giving this facility a fairly respectable grade in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B-. Nursing ratings are largely associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care provided.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's third highest category is long-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this category, it still performed somewhat badly. Nursing homes that do not fare well in this category typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 68.04124 percent of its patients. This is many points below what we expected. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at is short-term care. It received an F in this category, which is an abysmal score. In forming these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. With its score in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the measures we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. The final metric we considered in this category is the percentage of residents that returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.4 percent of its residents returning home.
