A grade of this caliber requires first-rate scores across the board. We were not surprised to discover that this is one of the highest rated facilities in the city. Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor dings are not necessarily something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to its superb resume, this facility also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a score of A in that category. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 97.72037 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. The last datapoint we assessed was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 1.78 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is middle of the road in this area.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. The nursing grade analyzes a handful of components, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This place fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided with better nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we rated was short-term care. We gave this facility a solid score in that area, with a grade of B-. While this isn't as favorable as many of this nursing home's other scores, it is nevertheless not a major area of concern. With our short-term care rating, we strive to create a meaningful measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess the facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 44.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
