Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. Inspection scores account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also didn't fare terribly in the category of long-term care. Indeed, we awarded it a B- for that category, which turned out to be another one of its more favorable scores. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 90.4908 percent of its residents. This is significantly below average. Nevertheless, this facility excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Our nursing rating includes many subcategories. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This facility averaged only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This place fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed is short-term care, in which this facility was given a rock bottom score in this category also. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this area, which is definitely very concerning. In calculating our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. With a grade this poor for this category, we were not shocked to find that this nursing home was well below average in multiple staffing areas we looked at. The nursing home supplied substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 2.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics was damning for this facility's short-term care score.
