Nurse Quality

Grade: C

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. When computing our nursing grades, we look at both nursing hours and the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a low total compared with most other facilities. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. Although this place got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality metrics. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this subcategory. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving residents more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our short-term care rating and that actually turned out to be its next highest category. In determining our short-term care scores, we assess a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This area is typically a reliable measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this nursing home's next highest score is long-term care. As it turns out, with a grade of D in this area, it still fared somewhat badly. Facilities that don't fare well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. After we finished assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated only 84.42623 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best feature in this category.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

In our last category of inspections, this nursing home received a grade that's as bad as it gets. With places that received this bad of an inspection rating, we recommend scrutinizing the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they caused a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, we need to point out that this facility was assessed large government fines in recent years amounting to over $100,000. This often indicates that a poor track record spanned several years.
