Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this place also excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A+. Few facilities performed better in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. This place was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's better category grades was in the area of short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B+. In forming these short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. We were extremely impressed to find that this facility offers its residents substantially more physical therapist hours than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in this area with 63.3 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home's third best score was long-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this category, it still fared somewhat poorly. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.176956 percent of its patients, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility fared much worse with 3.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is nearly double the national average.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's worst area was nursing, which is the last category we analyzed. We gave it an abysmal F in this area. In spite of some decent grades in other areas, this grade is nevertheless concerning so we would like to to make a note of it. We analyzed the skill-level of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses spent with patients, in calculating our grade in this category. This nursing home provided just 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This nursing home also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this area.
