Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that area, which is one of our best scores. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's long-term care rating turns out to be one of its better scores. The facility received a grade of C in this category. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. Fortunately, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
We were stunned to find that this facility also excelled in the area of nursing. In fact, we gave it a grade of D for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We assessed the levels of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses worked with patients, in computing our rating in this area. This facility averaged a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we assessed is short-term care. This nursing home received a rock bottom grade of F in that area. Short-term care scores are meaningful for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. With a score of this caliber for this area, we weren't stunned to learn that this place was below average in many staffing areas we focus on. The nursing home offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. The last item we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care score.
