Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to earning a quality overall score, this facility also earned excellent health inspections recently. We gave it one of our best scores in that category, with an A. Our inspection ratings account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also performed well in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Not many nursing homes received a better grade in this category. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. After we finished assessing the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.20425 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly is often a life or death ailment for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to our next area, this facility also earned a score of B+ for its short-term care rating. This is a well above average score in this area. In determining our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. We weren't able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

The last area we scored was nursing. This facility was given a better than average nursing score in our assessment, with a grade of B. Although this isn't nearly as strong as several of its other scores, this is nevertheless one of our stronger scores in that category. The nursing score weighs quite a few components, however, the main one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
