In addition to being a great facility overall, it also received A+ health inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Our inspection scores are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we awarded this facility an A. We analyzed the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses were with residents, in computing our score in this area. This particular nursing home provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving patients more often.

This nursing home also fared very well in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A. Only a select group of facilities fared better in this category. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility provided registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. Finally, we considered the number of residents who returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home performed better in this area than in its staffing levels. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility with 66.8 percent of its patients returning home.

In the last area, we awarded this facility a grade of A+ for our long-term care grade. This finished off a very favorable report card. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. This facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 1.54 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
