Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Although we graded this facility very poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in this category. Nursing ratings are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a relatively low total compared with most facilities. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this statistic. This is often an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving a resident at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We were also pleasantly surprised to find that this facility received a somewhat respectable short-term care grade in our assessment. We awarded it a grade of B- in this area. In calculating our short-term care grades, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's inspection grade where it received an F. This generally means we found some red flags on the inspections. We would advise paying close attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection rating. We would scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This particular facility had 3 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we graded is long-term care, where this facility was given a poor grade in this category also. Sadly, it received an F in this area, which is definitely very concerning. For patients in need of a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 98.86363 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
