Short-term Care Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our short-term care grade. In forming our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 6.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed as well in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our more favorable grades in our long-term care category as well, with a B+. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 48.1203 percent of its residents. This is slightly less than we expected. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
The final category we graded was nursing. We gave this facility an acceptable grade in this category, with a B-. Even though this is not as high as many of its other grades, it is still not a poor grade. Our nursing score is based on several data points, many of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, we look at quality-based statistics, such as the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are measures of the quality of nursing care.
