Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B- in nursing. This score is better than its overall score. In determining our nursing scores, we weigh both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a relatively low total compared to most other nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility received its second highest category score in the area of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this category, which is an acceptable grade. Short-term care grades are important for individuals needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing. This means a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a respectable grade in the area of long-term care, where it received a grade of C. Long-term care grades assess a nursing home's personal care rather than the skilled nursing and medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 98.69281 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is better than most nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
The final category we addressed was inspections. We gave this facility a C. Our inspection rating is based on the nursing home's inspection reports. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.
