One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we size up the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is more often than not a solid assessment of the facility's rehabilitation services. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is an excellent sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the country in this area with 66.9 percent of its patients returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this statistic.

This nursing home also received an A+ inspection score, making it one of the rare places to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Our nursing grade looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This place boasts a really impressive 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, of which a significant portion was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as predictive indicators of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

The last area we looked at is long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a solid grade in that area, with a C. Although this wasn't as dominant as several of its other grades, it is still not the end of the world. In the category of long-term care, we weigh the amount of care provided by a facility, rather than more medically-intensive services. This facility's vaccination records lagged a bit behind a few of its other data points in this area, such as its nursing hours. It provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 73.56322 percent of its patients. We would love to see some improvement herein this statistic next year. Nevertheless, this nursing home keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
