One of the reasons this place turned out to be a quality nursing home is it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this very important category. Inspection ratings are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

An additional reason we assessed this facility so favorably is that it was awarded an A+ long-term care grade. This is flat out as good as it gets in this category. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.2126 percent of its patients, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

This nursing home also received an A+ nursing grade, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+ category grades. Our nursing score consists of a handful of subcategories, but the primary consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving patients more often.

The last area we scored was short-term care, where this facility was given an A-. This wrapped up a very impressive profile. Not many facilities earned an A- or higher in all four categories. Short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
