Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
Although we were not high on this facility overall, we gave it a B- for long-term care. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of B-. Our nursing rating is mostly based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure which is well below the national average. Lastly, while this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this metric.

Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home only earned a grade of D for its short-term care grade, which is not a score to write home about. In forming our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. With a score in this range for this area, we weren't stunned to find this facility was well below average in several staffing metrics we focus on. It provided far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Facility Inspections
Looking to our last category of inspections, we gave this nursing home a score of just D, which is a relatively poor grade. Our inspection score is based on the nursing home's government inspections. Since this data is compiled by independent government inspectors, we place more weight on it in our overall grades. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed one category G through L deficiency, which rank among the more severe deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies uncovered by CMS had potential to cause actual harm to patients. Finally, this facility also received 36 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
