Long-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After looking at the impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.82 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home was just about middle of the road in this area.
Facility Inspections
This facility has also received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. This facility was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our next area, this facility received an excellent short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. Our short-term care scores are thought to be more critical for people in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home boosted its score in this category by offering more physical therapy hours to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country with 62.3 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
In our final area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our nursing grade. This finished off a very strong profile. In computing our nursing ratings, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This facility provides an extremely impressive 5.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is among the more impressive figures in the country. Lastly, we also looked at nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these data points as predictive measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
