Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a relatively impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable grades in that category with a B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also didn't grade out too badly in the category of long-term care. Indeed, we gave it a C for that area, which ended up being another one of its more respectable grades. In the category of long-term care, we focus on the amount of services provided by a nursing home, as opposed to more healthcare-oriented services. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. We were a bit alarmed this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to only 61.073826 percent of its patients. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 2.36 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this figure is somewhat concerning, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes due to the medical complexity of patients.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's poor nursing grade where it received an F. Our nursing rating is largely tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provided only 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. This place also had abysmal marks in several of the quality-based measures to pair with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than twice the national average in this metric. This is quite concerning when you consider that many pressure ulcers are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of earning a very poor nursing rating.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was short-term care. We gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is a rock bottom grade. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Considering its weak grade in this category, we weren't surprised to find this nursing home offers far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final measure we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 28.1 percent of its residents returning home. This was well below average.
