Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection score. In fact, its inspection grade was far better than its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This facility's second best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. Our nursing grade is mostly based on the facility's nurse staffing. This place averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It scored well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third category we analyzed is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a C. With our short-term care score, we seek to create a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. We were surprised to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we looked at was long-term care, which turned out to be this facility's worst area. We gave this facility a grade of D in that area. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to resident care. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 84.91124 percent of its patients. This is significantly below what we expected. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
