Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a strong overall score, this facility also earned first-rate government inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our best scores in that category, with a grade of A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to its profile, this nursing home also earned a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is a well above average grade in this category. Facilities that do well in this category tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. Our nursing grade analyzes a handful of subcategories, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses aids to assist its patients.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we graded was short-term care. We awarded it a C in that category. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this category. In our short-term care category, we seek to craft a fair measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze a facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
