Long-term Care Quality
On top of being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also fared well in our long-term care category, where it received an impressive grade of A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After assessing the impressive nursing care provided by this facility, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 99.65278 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 2.25 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be relatively insignificant. This place was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B in this area. Nursing scores are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This place offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 5.1 hours per resident daily. This is more nursing care than nearly any other place provides. Lastly, this facility also excelled in several quality measures we assessed. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by providing better nursing care and having a protocol of moving patients more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we scored was short-term care, in which this nursing home received a B-. Even though this turned out to be its lowest category score, this is nevertheless not a major area of concern. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it was above average in this metric with 51.4 percent of its patients returning home.
