Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this place also excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Few facilities performed better in this category. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next best area we awarded this nursing home in any area came in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. Our short-term care scores are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average facility. The last measure we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. The nursing grade features a variety of datapoints. The most heavily weighted factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's least impressive area is long-term care, which is the final category we scored. In this category, we awarded this facility a grade of D. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 98.4375 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is more than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
