Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Although we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a grade of B for our inspections rating. This score is much more impressive than the place's overall score. Our inspection scores are tied to several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of C in the area. Nursing scores are largely associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a low total compared with most other nursing homes. Lastly, nursing scores also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically an indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses aids to assist its patients.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next area we looked at was long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a decent grade of C. Long-term care grades are based on the nursing home's volume of care. This includes a broad spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 95.34314 percent of its patients, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we looked at is short-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive category. We awarded this facility a grade of D in that category. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 3.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
