Nurse Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. There are quite a few factors included in this category. Most of these factors are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 5.5 hours of nursing care per patient per day, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. This is among the highest totals of nursing hours we were able to find. In addition to providing high levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. It performed as well as any facility in the state when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Facility Inspections
This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning our next area, this facility received a strong short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in that category. Short-term care grades are often used to assess a facility's rehabilitation services In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. One reason for this nursing home's favorable score in this area is it provides more care from registered nurses than a typical facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at is long-term care. This facility received a better than average nursing grade this year, with a B. Even though this was not as good as several of its other grades, this remains one of our more favorable scores for that area. Facilities that excel in this category tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After looking at the impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 98.82353 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations.
