Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Nursing grades are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive category scores, this nursing home excelled in the category of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this area generally have few severe deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Contributing to its fine profile, this facility also was given a superb short-term care score, with a grade of A-. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final category we graded turned out to be this nursing home's worst area. However, even its lowest point would likely be a strength for most nursing homes. We gave it a favorable grade of B for long-term care. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
