Grade: A+

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection ratings are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Contributing to its superb resume, this nursing home also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, we gave it a score of A- for that category. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of providing elite levels of nursing care, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This statistic is also far higher than the average nursing home. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. In determining our nursing scores, we assess both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provided 4.5 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This was one of the highest totals we found. Furthermore, a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any nursing home in North Carolina in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Turning to the next category, this facility received a highly favorable short-term care score. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that area, rounding out a straight A profile. Our short-term care scores are vital for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This place provides more services with registered nurses and physical therapists than most facilities we looked at. This is typically a very favorable sign. The final item we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to return to the community. We found that this nursing home was above average with 53.7 percent of its patients able to return home.
