Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We also would like to emphasize that this facility has earned nearly flawless inspections recently. We gave them an A in this area. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category typically have few of these severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. The nursing rating is based on many subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This nursing home averages 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also received a top-shelf short-term care score. This actually is its third strongest category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility a score of A-. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Moving on to the final area, this nursing home also excelled in our long-term care category. In fact, we gave it a B+ in that area. This finalized a very impressive profile. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a life or death condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
