On top of being an elite facility overall, this nursing home performed well in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Few facilities fared as well in this area. Inspection ratings are based on datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another strong feature for this nursing home is that it was given an impressive long-term care score. In fact, this proved to be its second best category grade. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 97.11539 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Nursing scores are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility offers 2.9 hours of nursing care per resident each day, of which more than one hour was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. In determining our nursing scores, we add more significance to hours performed by registered or licensed nurses. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we scored was short-term care. In this category, we gave this facility an impressive grade of B. In computing our short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes.
