Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned a very impressive short-term care score. In that category, we awarded this facility an A. Our short-term care grades are crucial for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. We were not able to locate information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 6.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility has received near flawless health inspections recently. We gave them an A in this area. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. When computing a facility's nursing grade, we consider the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The final category we assessed was long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of B+. This rounded out a very favorable profile. Very few nursing homes earned a B+ or higher in in each area we assessed. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. One of the data points we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this nursing home submitted data regarding vaccinations. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
