Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection ratings are based on several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
An additional strong feature for this facility is that it received a favorable long-term care score. In fact, this ended up being its second best category score. In this category, we gave this facility a B+. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. This facility's vaccination data weren't as favorable a few of its other statistics in this area, such as its nursing hours. It administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 89.393936 percent of its patients. We would like to see some improvement in this area in the future. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.82 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. In determining our nursing scores, we assess both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This facility provided 4.1 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a very impressive figure which typically correlates with higher quality care. Finally, this place also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering falls which lead to serious injury, this place performed better than the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed is short-term care, where this facility was given a grade of B-. This turned out to be this facility's least impressive area. This is still not a poor grade. In forming these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final measure we assessed in this category is the number of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 41.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. This figure was below average.
