Facility Inspections
Although we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually earned a relatively impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our better scores in that area with a grade of B+. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. This facility received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's next best score was long-term care, but it still earned a grade of just D in that category. This ended up being a relatively poor grade. Nursing homes that don't score well in this category often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in a few of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to only 38.81579 percent of its residents, which is slightly concerning. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. Nursing scores are based in large part on quantity of nursing care available. This place offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we graded was short-term care. This nursing home was given a very poor grade of F in this category. In crafting our short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. As you might expect, we learned that this facility provides significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average nursing home. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.1 percent of its residents returning home. This was quite a bit below average.
