Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

It should also be noted that this facility's inspection rating outpaced its overall score. In fact, we gave it a B+ for its inspections grade, which is a very solid score. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category usually have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong grade in our nursing category. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B+ in this area. The nursing rating is based on a number of factors. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's third best category was its short-term care grade, where it was awarded a B-. In our short-term care assessment, we seek to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's worst category was long-term care, which is the last area we analyzed. In this area, we awarded this nursing home a D. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to resident care. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 76.37363 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be quite a few points less than what we expected. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
