Facility Inspections
In addition to being a strong facility overall, it also earned A+ government inspections recently. Its inspections are nearly perfect. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category tend to have very few severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also would like to emphasize the fact that this facility was awarded a top-shelf grade of A- in our short-term care category. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be more meaningful for people requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires more skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 6.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our third area, this nursing home received first-rate long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- in this category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.4832 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the next area, this facility was given an acceptable nursing score. Although this isn't quite as strong as many of its other category grades, this is still not the end of the world. The nursing category weighs many data points, many of which are based on nursing hours. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, we also considered a few quality-based measures in this category. While this facility didn't rank highly in terms of its nursing hours, it performed better in some of the quality measures we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, this nursing home fared better than average. This is often an indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided with better nursing care.
