Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this nursing home's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with a grade of A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home really excelled in our nursing category, where it earned a grade of D. Our nursing grade is largely associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility averaged a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This place performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the area of long-term care, this nursing home received just a D in this category. Nursing homes that don't score well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit concerned this nursing home administered the vaccine to just 84.63476 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we graded was short-term care, where this nursing home received a bottom of the barrel score here also. We gave it a lowly F for this category, which is obviously somewhat alarming. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be more meaningful for residents requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics sunk this facility's short-term care grade.
