Short-term Care Quality
Even though we gave this nursing home a poor overall score, we actually gave it a decent grade in our short-term care category, where it received a B-. This was better than its other grades. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is still important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Facility Inspections
We actually gave this nursing home a very solid score in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we gave it a B- in this category. This is better than many nursing homes in this category. We would argue that one of the most important factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing category is based on a handful of factors, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a relatively low total compared with most facilities. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics. While this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this metric. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning a patient more often.
Long-term Care Quality
Our last category is long-term care, where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C in this category. Long-term care grades are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of nursing care. This includes a vast scope of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 91.794876 percent of its residents. This is somewhat less than we expected but still a respectable figure. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
