In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. We looked at the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the quantity of time the nurses spent with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning residents at least once a day.

This facility has received near flawless inspections recently. We gave them an A in this category. Inspection scores are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's inspections. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

This facility also was given an impressive short-term care grade. Indeed, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this category. In our short-term care rating, we endeavor to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We found that 4.5 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

The last category we assessed was long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B+. This topped off an elite report card. Not many nursing homes earned a B+ or better in every category. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are kept in good health. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 70.96154 percent of its patients. This is slightly lower than we anticipated but still a decent percentage. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
