Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Inspection grades are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Grade: A

We also would like to alert you to the fact that this nursing home was given a top-shelf grade of A in our long-term care category. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. In addition to providing elite levels of nurse staffing, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This statistic is also significantly better than the vast majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 1.54 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also was awarded a strong short-term care grade. In fact, this is this facility's third best category score. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of A. Our short-term care ratings are vital for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This includes a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that were able to return home from this facility. This place fared as well as just about any facility with 61.9 percent of its residents returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Turning to our next area, this facility was given a strong nursing score. While this isn't as impressive as some of its other category grades, this remains one of our stronger scores a facility can receive. Nursing scores are heavily correlated with quality and quantity of nursing care. With 4.5 hours of nursing care per patient per day, this facility surpassed the overwhelming majority of nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
