Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility has received near flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also want to point out the fact that this nursing home was given an elite score of A in our short-term care area. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also fared very well in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A. Not many nursing homes performed better in this area. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This is a proven method to minimize negative health outcomes for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
The next category we rated is nursing, where this facility received a grade of B. While this wound up being its poorest category rating, this is still an impressive grade. We looked at the licensure of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses worked with residents, in computing our score in this category. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
