Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a strong overall grade, this facility performed even better in our inspections category which is associated with the facility's recent government inspections. In fact, we gave it an A for that area, which is one of our highest grades. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Nurse Quality
Among this facility's other strengths is its elite nursing grade. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of A-. In determining our nursing scores, we analyze both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our more favorable grades in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B. Our short-term care grades are probably more critical for folks requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the number of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 3.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed is long-term care, in which this nursing home was awarded a grade of B-. This was this facility's worst area. This is still not a terrible score. In calculating our long-term care scores, we look at the assistance with daily living received by a nursing home's residents. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
