One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

We also wanted to alert you to the fact that this facility performed remarkably in our short-term care category. We awarded them an impressive score of A+ in this category. In our short-term care category, we strive to forge a meaningful measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess the nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. It fared as well as just about any facility in Wisconsin in this area with 66 percent of its patients returning home.

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. Our nursing rating is largely based on the facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided 4.5 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is among the better figures in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by both of these statistics. On top of looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as predictive measures of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

The next category we analyzed ended up being this nursing home's poorest area. However, even its lowest point would be a strength for many nursing homes. In fact, we awarded it a strong grade of B for our long-term care category. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in this category it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the factors we considered after this nursing home's above average nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 99.3421 percent of its residents. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for seniors. This combination proved to be successful as this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
