Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area typically have few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility an A. Nursing ratings are based in large part on quantity of nursing care available. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its high-end profile, this facility also was given a strong long-term care grade, with a score of A-. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The final category we assessed is short-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of B+. This completed a very favorable report card. Not many nursing homes earned a B+ or higher in each of our categories. With our short-term care grade, we endeavor to create a valuable measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
