One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this area. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Another reason we assessed this facility so highly is that it was given an A+ long-term care grade. This is just about as strong as it gets in this area. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 95.29412 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a reliable method to avoid negative health outcomes for the elderly population. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.09 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. In computing our nursing ratings, we analyze both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.8 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. With less than 5 percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by offering better nursing care and having a protocol of turning residents more often.

The fourth area we looked at was short-term care, where this nursing home received a B+. This completed an elite profile. Not many nursing homes earned a B+ or better in every single category. Short-term care grades are generally employed to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
