This nursing home really excelled in our short-term care rating, with an A- in this category. This really propped up its overall score. Short-term care grades are important for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any facility in this area with 72.9 percent of its patients returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this metric.

We also want to emphasize this facility's nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A- in this area. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

Historical

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. Nursing ratings are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility boasts a really impressive 8.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day, of which a significant percentage were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the more impressive totals of nursing hours we found at any nursing home in the Camarillo area. Lastly, our nursing rating also includes a few applicable quality-based metrics. Even though this place excelled in terms of quantity of nursing care, it lagged behind in certain metrics that focused on quality. This facility's nursing score was pulled down by poor performance in the area of minimizing pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 15 percent of this facility's patients suffered from pressure ulcers.

Historical

This nursing home's weakest area was long-term care, which is the final category we assessed. For this area, we gave this facility a grade of D. For patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. Due to its grade in this category, we were surprised to discover that this nursing home had favorable subcategory scores in both nursing hours and its vaccination records. In fact, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.590164 percent of its residents. This percentage is actually higher than many nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.68 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
