Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home really excelled in the area of long-term care. We awarded it an impressive grade of A- for that category. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are kept in good health. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.039215 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is too frequently a life threatening condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize this facility's nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this area. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Nurse Quality
Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. Our nursing grade analyzes quite a few components, but the main consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. With just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this place's nurse staffing levels were significantly below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we rated was short-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive area. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this category, which is clearly concerning. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be more critical for patients requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
