Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home really outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in this category with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. While this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of this nursing home's higher category grades came in the area of long-term care. This ended up being its second most favorable category. In that area, we awarded this facility a B-. In our long-term care rating, we weigh the quantity of care offered by a nursing home, as well as some qualitative measures. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.48718 percent of its residents. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home's next highest category is short-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this category, it still fared relatively badly. Our short-term care grades are believed to be more important for folks in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more highly-skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Considering its grade in this category, we weren't surprised to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected to find. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to our next category, this nursing home did not perform well. Due to a poor grade of F in nursing, this was this nursing home's weakest category grade. The nursing rating is based on many factors, but the main consideration is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an alarmingly low total. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility.
