We also found that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is often a dangerous illness for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. The last datapoint we looked at is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 1.82 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is close to average in this area.

This facility has also received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. In determining our nursing grades, we weigh both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Turning to our fourth category, this facility really did not fare very well. With a rock bottom grade of F in this category, this is obviously this nursing home's worst category grade. In the category of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients that returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 22.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
