This facility fared well in our long-term care category, with an impressive grade of A- in this area. This really propped up its overall score quite a bit. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

This facility also earned favorable government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a B. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. Our nursing score is based on many factors. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a low total compared with most other nursing homes. Lastly, although this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality metrics. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this statistic.

The last area we assessed is short-term care, which was this facility's least impressive category. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area, which is clearly a major concern. Our short-term care ratings are important for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Considering its abysmal grade in this area, we were not surprised to learn this place provided substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 3.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
