One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. This is as good as it gets in this area. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities with 63.1 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.

This nursing home also received an A+ nursing grade, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+ category grades. Nursing ratings are largely associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This particular facility provided 4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was above the national average. Finally, this place was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. By way of illustration, it performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.

Racking up another strong category grade, this facility also excelled in inspections, where it received an A. Few facilities performed better in this category. Inspection scores are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

The last category we looked at is long-term care. We gave this facility one of our more favorable scores in this area, with a B. Although this was not as favorable as several of this facility's other grades, it is nevertheless an excellent grade. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths for the elderly population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
