Facility Inspections

Grade: C

While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a C for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection ratings are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to resident safety. This facility was assessed 6 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We were also stunned to learn that this facility received a decent short-term care grade this year. We awarded it a C in this category. In calculating our short-term care scores, we scrutinize the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This score is more often than not a reliable assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final metric we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

Nurse Quality

Among this nursing home's several poor grades was its F in the area of nursing care. When calculating our nursing grades, we weigh both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This particular facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This statistic is quite a bit below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This place fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Turning to the fourth category, this nursing home didn't fare well in this area either. With a poor grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as bad as it gets. For patients looking for a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.69707 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable total. To our surprise, this place also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
