Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this area. Our short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is generally an excellent sign. The final item we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Minnesota in this area with 71.6 percent of its patients returning home. For most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility received high marks in the area of nursing. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Our nursing rating is mostly based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provides an incredible 4.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Out of that total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of care, this place was also above average in several of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. By way of illustration, it performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. These metrics are generally reliable measures of the quality of nursing care a facility offers.
Facility Inspections
This facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an impressive grade of B+. Few facilities performed better in this area. Inspection scores are based on pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we graded is long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a decent grade of C. This actually turned out to be this facility's worst category. For prospective residents in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 91.36491 percent of its patients. This is a few points lower than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. While it had 2.48 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was more favorable.
