Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was not bad, it really fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a middle of the road score in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of B-. In the category of short-term care, we strive to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The tricky part is determining what bearing this had on the quality of care. The last measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 5.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality
Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this facility a score of D. Our nursing score is based on a host of subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these datapoints to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we graded was long-term care. It received an F for this area, which is an abysmal grade. This is certainly a major disappointment. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. One of the statistics we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 96.83908 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
